Suspension & Steering

The short answer

A car that pulls to one side is most often caused by wheel misalignment or uneven tire pressure. If it pulls only when braking, a sticking brake caliper or collapsed brake hose is likely. Worn suspension components and tire defects can also cause pulling.

Tires first

Check that all four tires are at the pressure listed on your door jamb. A low tire is the simplest explanation.

Alignment

Potholes on Austin roads and curb strikes knock alignment out. Uneven inner or outer tire wear is a telltale sign.

Brakes and suspension

Pulling during braking means one side is gripping more — a stuck caliper or bad hose. Worn ball joints or control arm bushings cause wandering.
